Put a lid on it!

Four years ago we had the asphalt roof on the house replaced with a metal roof.

There was nothing wrong with the roof, but we'd always been concerned about the shingles; within a few years of completing the roof we became aware of a class-action lawsuit regarding the manufacturer, and were concerned that they were destined to fail. So, pro-actively we replaced them with a steel roof.

We hired the best roofers in town, and they did a fantastic job for us.

It was super-hot, and hard work, but that didn't slow them down.

We've learned it's best to just stay out of the way when stuff like this is gong on.

Out of the way, but taking lots of photos.

They installed new skylights as well. Again, the skylights we had worked fine, but they'd been installed to accommodate shingles and the metal roof would require different flashing, so it just made sense to replace them.

One of the skylights is in the kitchen, and one is in the loft.

So now, during a rainstorm, we can look up at the clouds through the skylights, and listen to the syncopated beat of the rain drops.

Pretty damn nice.
